What is the oldest school site in Jersey City?

Answer

Sometime between 1660 or 1668, the Dutch settlers of the newly organized Bergen Village constructed a small wooden schoolhouse near the northeast corner of today's Bergen Avenue and Academy Street. Today, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Public School Number 11, dedicated in 1969, is the fifth in the series of school buildings that have stood on this same corner for over 350 years, making this location the oldest continuously used school site in Jersey City as well as in the entire state of New Jersey.
